Good Oils Versus Bad Oils
Are you on a diet and caloric deficit, but you aren’t losing weight? It’s time to look deeper into your nutrition, start reading labels, and asking questions if you’re going out to eat. When it comes to nutrition, one aspect that often gets overlooked is the type of oils we consume or use in our cooking. At Thrive Training Facility, we prioritize the quality of ingredients we consume, including the oils we cook with. It's essential to understand the differences between good oils and bad oils, as well as the importance of knowing where these oils come from.
For those of us who choose to cook at home, this is a quick fix in your day to day. Replace the bad oils with good ones, and while you’re at it, read your food labels to eliminate other sources of processed foods, preservatives, and harmful ingredients. If you don’t know what an ingredient is, look it up, or don’t consume it.
For those of us who eat out, why are some restaurants using cheap, inflammatory oils that are bad for our health? Because those “vegetable” oils are cheaper. I’m not willing to put my health at risk so a restaurant can save a few bucks, so if an establishment chooses to serve food with unhealthy oils, then I think it’s best to dine elsewhere.
Good oils, such as olive oil, avocado oil, and coconut oil, are rich in heart-healthy fats like monounsaturated and polyunsaturated fats. These oils can help lower cholesterol levels, reduce the risk of heart disease, and provide essential nutrients for overall health. On the other hand, bad oils, such as vegetable oils, canola oil, seed oils and soybean oil, are high in unhealthy fats that can contribute to inflammation and various health issues. Olive oil is my personal favorite to use. I typically stick to this for everything I cook and I love the taste and flavor.
In addition to choosing good oils over bad oils, it's very important to consider the source of the oils. Opt for oils that are minimally processed, cold-pressed, and sourced from reputable producers who follow strict standards and practices. We buy and love one of our local restaurants olive oil from Mediteranno, and it’s made in Greece! It’s delicious.
Eating the right foods and proper macronutrient ratios, along with a workout plan at Thrive, will give you optimal results to not only lose weight, gain lean muscle, but to reduce inflammation in your body and keep your gut healthy. Gut health is extremely important!
Let's make the switch to good oils and thrive together. We believe in the power of whole, natural ingredients, that are sourced responsibly and carefully. By choosing high-quality oils and ingredients that are good for our bodies and the environment, we can make a positive impact on our health and in the world.
