The Foundation!
Mobility is king. Strength coaches across the country ignore it, yet it’s the foundational piece to any program. A proper flexibility and mobility regimen should be a top priority during and after a proper and comprehensive evaluation. This is how a strength and conditioning coach helps an athlete excel to their true and highest potential. This is how a strength and conditioning coaches builds weaknesses, and strengthens strong points in the body even further than before, while significantly reducing risks of injuries. Why is it being ignored as the highest levels?
Anybody can prescribe someone a workout program. You can even google millions of them, but is it the right program for you and your needs? Even if you’re on a team, every individual is different and has different needs. It wouldn’t make sense for everyone on a team to follow the same exact program.
Give me one reason a quarterback or baseball pitcher is bench pressing? If the constant overuse of one of their shoulders causing significant tightness on one side, isn’t a dead giveaway that they should stay far away from a bench press, then I don’t know what is! From another point of view, why’s a golfer, pitcher, or quarterback who transversely rotates one of his hips every single time he plays, doing a bi-lateral (using both sides of the body at the same time) dead lift or clean to become more “explosive.” Wouldn’t it make more sense to even out their body as much as possible so it can perform at even higher levels?
This is just a piece of the puzzle. Mobility is the foundational roadmap to each and every athlete success when it comes to strength and conditioning, then the real programming begins.
